New: scrolling capture powered by Apple's Vision framework

The screenshot app
Mac users actually deserve.

Area, window, full-screen. Scrolling shots that actually stitch. Select text inside any image with OCR. Record your screen with mic and system audio. Annotate, pin, share — all in one flow.

Everything, in one app

Nine ways to capture your screen.

Built for the way you actually work. Fast hotkeys, native performance, thoughtful defaults.

Area capture

Drag a rectangle, get a pixel-perfect PNG. Real-time size readout, teal selection border, snap to multiples of 8.

Window capture

Click any window to grab it — transparent shadow preserved, content only, no desktop bleeding through.

Scrolling screenshot

Scroll through any page, chat thread, or document — we stitch it into one long image using Apple's Vision framework.

Capture to text

Select a region and ParaScreen runs OCR on-device. The text goes straight to your clipboard — no menus, no upload.

Screen recording

Record full screen, a window, or just a cropped area. Toggle microphone and system audio independently. Pause and resume mid-record.

Built-in annotator

Arrows, rectangles, highlight, blur, text. Pixel-snap cursor tracking. Save lands back in your capture library, not a new file.

Pin to desktop

Stick a capture as a floating window. Useful for referencing a design while coding, or a quote while writing.

Custom hotkeys

Remap any capture action. Letters, digits, arrows, F1–F20. Single-key shortcuts for function keys, combos for everything else.

Capture library

Every capture organized in a grid. Resize the window, scroll the history, click to preview or re-annotate.

SCROLLING CAPTURE

Long screenshots that actually work.

Pick a region, scroll the page, hit stop. ParaScreen captures frames as you go and uses Apple's Vision framework to align them with sub-pixel accuracy — no visible seams, no ghosting, no stacking.

  • VNTranslationalImageRegistrationRequest under the hood
  • Handles both downward and upward scrolling
  • Skips jitter frames so output stays clean

CAPTURE → COPY TEXT

OCR that lives inside your shortcut.

Press one hotkey, drag over anything with text — a receipt, a PDF page, a login form, a terminal output — and ParaScreen runs on-device OCR. The text is in your clipboard before you finish the drag.

  • Runs entirely on-device using Apple's Vision OCR
  • No network round-trip, no cloud uploads
  • Preserves line breaks and reading order

SCREEN RECORDING

Record exactly what you need.

Choose full screen, a window, or drag out an area. Toggle mic and system audio independently. A clean recording HUD lives at the top of your screen — pulsing red dot, timer, pause, stop.

  • H.264 MP4 output, 10 Mbps bitrate, 60 FPS
  • Pause and resume — timer freezes, no jump
  • Built on ScreenCaptureKit, zero dropped frames

RECORD SETUP

Every audio source. Yours to choose.

Before each recording, pick your region and your audio inputs. System audio captures whatever macOS is playing — music, meeting voices, alerts. Microphone captures you. Both, either, or neither.

  • Your toggles persist for next session
  • Live status text — "Recording" vs "Muted"
  • Area mode records only the crop you draw

ANNOTATOR

Mark it up, send it out.

Open any screenshot in the annotator. Arrow, rectangle, highlight, blur, or add a text note. Colors, stroke widths, and undo — with cursor tracking that's accurate to the pixel.

  • Drag gestures pinned to image coordinate space
  • Blur tool renders at flatten time, pixel-accurate
  • Save replaces the original — no file clutter

CUSTOM HOTKEYS

Bind it to any key you want.

Every capture action is remappable. Letters, digits, symbols, arrows, function keys. Function keys can be bound without modifiers — everything else requires at least one. Conflicts resolve automatically.

  • Click to record, press your combo, done
  • ⌫ while recording clears the binding
  • Auto-swaps when a combo is already taken

Private by design

Your captures
never leave your Mac.

ParaScreen is a local app, period. Every screenshot, recording, annotation, and OCR pass runs on-device using Apple's native frameworks. There's no account to sign up for, no cloud to sync with, no telemetry to opt out of. You won't find a single outbound request in the capture pipeline — because there isn't one.

No account required Works fully offline Apple frameworks only On-device OCR
Zero network

No outbound requests

Our capture pipeline makes zero network calls. Run Little Snitch or Lulu and watch — nothing in, nothing out.

On-device AI

OCR runs on your Neural Engine

Text recognition and scrolling stitching both use Apple's Vision framework, locally. No cloud model in the path.

Your disk

Files stay where you put them

Captures save to a folder you control. Uninstalling ParaScreen leaves your files behind — because they're yours.

Frequently asked

Answers before you ask.

Does ParaScreen work on Intel Macs?

No — Apple Silicon (M1 or later) only. ScreenCaptureKit and Vision's on-device OCR depend on the Neural Engine for real-time performance, so Intel support isn't planned.

Is my data ever uploaded?

Never. OCR and scrolling-screenshot stitching both run entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework. There's no network code in the capture path. Everything stays on your Mac.

How does scrolling capture work?

We grab a frame every 180ms while you scroll, then use VNTranslationalImageRegistrationRequest to compute the exact pixel offset between consecutive frames. The non-overlapping rows get stitched onto a running canvas. Scrolling backwards crops the stitch shorter.

Can I record system audio?

Yes. ScreenCaptureKit captures system audio without a kernel extension or a virtual audio driver. Toggle it on in the recording setup panel.

Where are my captures saved?

By default, ~/Library/Application Support/ParaScreen/captures/. You can change the folder in Settings → General. All captures are also indexed in a browsable library.

Can I remap the hotkeys?

Every action. Any key. Single function-key bindings allowed. Conflicts auto-resolve by swapping. See Settings → Shortcuts.

Will you ship ParaScreen for iOS / iPad?

Not planned. The scrolling-screenshot feature is built-in on iOS, and ScreenCaptureKit is macOS-only. ParaScreen is a Mac-first app.
